Sources: Red Sox Agree In Principle On Deal With Mark Teixeira

Sources have confirmed to Sons of Simmons, that the Boston Red Sox have agreed in principle to an eight-year deal with first basemen Mark Teixeira. Details are still sketchy at the moment, but it looks to be for around $170 Million dollars, not the $195 Million that agent Scott Boras was asking for. We cannot confirm, but we have heard the Red Sox did not include an opt-clause in the contract. Last season while splitting time between the Braves and Angels, Teixeira batted .308 with 33 HR’s and 121 RBI’s.

well ain’t that just ducky..forgive me if I hold my celebrating until the deal is done..now if we can resolve the catching situation I’ll be a happy man,until the season starts.
I cannot state my source on this one because he/she will never be my source again if i state his/her name. Please trust me on this one. The Sox are ready to announce this signing and are just working out the details. Barring a last minute disaster (no trade clause), expect to have this signing announced as a nice Christmas/Hanukkah present.

This will most likely be a good thing for the BoSox because they would be hamstrung years 6-8 of this deal. John Henry complains all the time that they do not have the money to compete with the Yankees, what a cry baby.
