Red Sox Ask To Host 2012 All-Star Game

BOSTON — When the Red Sox spend the 2012 season commemorating the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park, there’s a chance there will be a centerpiece event that would have emotions stirring throughout the game.

Red Sox president/CEO Larry Lucchino confirmed on Thursday that the club has already requested to Major League Baseball that Boston have an upcoming All-Star Game at Fenway, preferably in 2012.

“We have made a request to have another All-Star Game at Fenway Park in light of the upcoming 100th anniversary and the changes that have taken place,” Lucchino said Thursday during part of a media availability in which the club was announcing Year VIII improvements of Fenway.

MLB has already announced that the 2009 All-Star Game will be in St. Louis and the 2010 Midsummer Classic will be at Angel Stadium in Anaheim.
