Clay Buchholz Demoted To Double A
August 21, 2008 by Mike
Don’t you wish they traded him for Johan Santana now ? The abysmal season for Clay Buchholz continues after last night’s debacle where he only lasted 2.1 innings and gave up 5 earned runs, after he was spotted with a quick four runs by the Red Sox. It’s still very early in the career of the young right-hander, but he has been plain awful this season, going 2-9, with an ERA of a whopping 6.75. Out of his 15 starts this season he has only reached the sixth inning five times, and has failed to get past the fourth inning in six of those starts which has put major stress on the Red Sox anemic bullpen. Maybe looking back on it, Theo might have been willing to include Buchholz in a deal for the game’s best left-hander in Santana, although the contract demands for Santana were a bit steep. Even though ’Buck Dirty” may have all the talent in the world, he may not possess the drive that you need to be a star pitcher in the league. He has had his share of trouble, that be stealing computers, which was along time ago, and there was talk that the Red Sox sent him home last year during the playoffs for some of his off-the-field antics. Now, Buchholz is basically done for the year with the Red Sox as they hope to fix whatever is wrong with him. Is it time to give up on him ? No, but his elite-level prospect status maybe no longer.
