Sox Get LaRoche

Adam LaRoche

The Red Sox, in an effort to boost their dead offense traded today for Andy LaRoche.  They traded two lower level minor players (not top tier prospects) to the Pirates for LaRoche.   Over the past 4 seasons LaRoche has hit at least 20HR’s and had 78RBI’s.  I am assuming this move is to bolster the Sox lineup if Ortiz/Lowell have any second half issues.  Last year, the brother of LaRoche (Andy) was traded to the Pirates in the Manny trade.  More on the trade from the Globe’s Tony Maz:

If you’re wondering what leftanded first baseman Adam LaRoche will bring to the Red Sox, here’s an assessment from a respected, longtime major league evaluator:

“I like the move for the Red Sox. … He’s real streaky [offensively] and an outstanding defender. … Most of his bad at-bats come against lefthanded pitching … He’s a rhythm hitter. If he’s a little off, he can look real ugly. If he’s right, he can get real hot. There’s no in-between with him. … He plays the game with a very easy pace. Sometimes people criticize that because it can look lackadaisical. … He’s not just a pull guy. He can go all over the field. There’s ability there. You can’t put up 25 [home runs] and 75 [RBI] every year and not have something.’’

As most everyone knows at this point, the Red Sox needed a lefthanded bat that could provide them with some thump from the middle of the lineup, whether it be from the No. 5 or No. 6 spot. In their last 21 games against righthanded pitching, the Red Sox are batting .221 with a .679 OPS. David Ortiz’s overall decline, coupled with J.D. Drew’s sudden and worrisome ineffectiveness — he’s batting .236 now — left the Red Sox especially vulnerable against righthanders.

Sons of Simmons Classic: Ichiro Is Knute Rockne In The Making

In honor of tonight’s All-Star Game.  Prediction AL 6 – NL 4

Sons of Simmons Classic: Ichiro Is Knute Rockne In The Making

Why does the American League win the All-Star game every year ? Is it because they have better players ? Is it because they have a deeper squad ? Is it because they have the least number of white boys ? No, the answer is easy: Ichiro. Apparently, it has become common for the Jap with the Rap, to give his pre-game speech every year right after the manger finishes up his talk to the team. Jeff Passan writes:

“It’s why we win,” David Ortiz said.

He pointed to Ichiro Suzuki, the Seattle Mariners’ wisp of an outfielder, a man who still uses a translator to do interviews with English-speaking reporters – and happens to be baseball’s amalgam of Anthony Robbins and George Carlin. Every year, after the AL manager addresses his team, Ichiro bursts from his locker, a bundle of kinetic energy, and proceeds, in English, to disparage the National League with an H-bomb of F-bombs, stunning first-timers who had no idea Ichiro speaks the queen’s language fluently and making returnees happy that they had played well enough to see the pep talk again.

The tradition began in 2001, Ichiro’s first All-Star appearance, and the AL hasn’t lost a game since. Coincidence ?

Now, why doesn’t Fox get this on camera instead of seeing George Brett put the audience to sleep ? I betcha, if they televised this next year it be the highest rated part of the game.

chrisberman Is Anyone Else Sick of Chris Berman?

The most tired act in sports was at it again last night, as bad and annoying as ever.  Chris Berman put on a show for the ages, for the ages of major sucking.  Please get a new act you lame ass douche bag.  It’s a shame you actually had a big role in making ESPN big and now you are a joke on the level of Joe Buck Live, Joe Morgan or Tim McCarver.
