barkley mugshot Charles Barkley Busted on Suspicion of DUI

NBA Legend and notorious loudmouth Charles Barkley was arrested early Wednesday Morning on suspicion of driving under the influence.  Barkley refused a breathalyzer and was later released from the Scottsdale, Arizona police station.  More on this story from the Associated Press:

An officer with a law enforcement task force that targets drunken driving saw the former NBA star run a stop sign around 1:30 a.m., said Gilbert police Lt. Eric Shuhandler.

Barkley declined to submit to a breath test but was given a blood test. The results weren’t immediately available.

After Barkley was processed, he was cited and released. He left in a cab, Shuhandler said.

Shuhandler said there was nothing remarkable about the 45-year-old Barkley’s arrest and that it is customary to release people after they’ve been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

“There was nothing unusual about how he was taken into custody,” Shuhandler said. “He was treated exactly like we treat anybody else.”

Barkley was arrested in Scottsdale’s Old Town area, one of the trendiest spots in the Phoenix metro area.

Mets Offer Derek Lowe a Contract

Derek Lowe Mets Offer Derek Lowe a Contract

The New York Mets have offered free agent pitcher Derek Lowe a contract according to a report in the New York Times.  The offer is reported to be 3 years for $36 million.  Agent Scott Boras, declined to confirm or deny the report and said “Obviously, we’ve taken offers from a number of teams.”

Lowe, 35, is expecting a 5 year $90 million contract.  There isn’t a market for Lowe to get that contract, but the 3 year for 36 million is basically the same as he signed with the Dodgers after the ‘04 season.

An interesting Lowe tidbit, he is one of 3 pitchers to win 20 or more games as a starter and save 40 or more games as a closer.  The others are John Smoltz and Dennis Eckersley.

Yes this happened and the refs didn’t take the basket away.  Supposedly the league reviewed this at half time and said it was a technical error, too bad Celtics.  Go to the :48 second mark, what a joke.  NBA officiating is as bad as any sport.

In other news, Tim Donaghy is working the Celtics-Trailblazers game tonight.

Broncos Fire Mike Shanahan

 Broncos Fire Mike Shanahan

The Denver Broncos have announced today that they have fired head coach Mike Shanahan after 14 seasons with the team.  Shanahan finished 146-91 in his 14 seasons with Denver with 2 Super Bowl victories, but he was 24-24 in the last three seasons.  The Broncos have remained strong on the offensive side of the ball the last few years including using numerous running back’s to share the load, but the defense again was poor this season.  They ranked 3rd to last in points allowed.  This comes as a surprise to many and do not look for Shanahan to be unemployed long unless he chooses to take time off.  He could become the front runner in Dallas

Shanahan has 3 years and $20 million left on his contract.  Bill Cowher, Jim Fassel, Gary Kubiak among others could be considered for the new opening.

Plummer is retired from football and with a wife like that I am assuming that his playing days are over.  God I wish I was a professional athlete.

Erin+Andrews Is This Erin Andrews?

I have seen this image multiple times now on the Internet and every site claims it to be Sons of Simmons favorite Erin Andrews.  It looks like her but I cannot really tell.  Does anyone else think that this is really EA?  I also found out that Erin is only 30 years old, was born in Maine and went to the University of Florida.  At UF she was a Dazzler (basketball team dancer) and in some shitty sorority. Just for the sake of it, here is Erin’s official ESPN bio:

Erin Andrews joined ESPN in May 2004 as a reporter for the network’s national hockey league coverage. Since the 2004 season, Andrews has served as a reporter for the ESPN College Football Saturday telecast , the Saturday Primetime college basketball game and Big Ten college basketball coverage. In 2005, she added Major League Baseball sideline reporting to her responsibilities. She also provides reports and features on Great Outdoor Games coverage.

Prior to ESPN, Andrews worked as a reporter and studio host for Turner Sports from 2002-04, covering the Atlanta Braves (studio host) and college football (reporter) for TBS and Atlanta Thrashers (studio host) and Atlanta Hawks (reporter) for Turner Sports South.

Sox Trying to get Hanley Ramirez Back?

December 30, 2008 by Mike · Leave a Comment

p1.hanley Sox Trying to get Hanley Ramirez Back?

SI.com and Weei are reporting that the Boston Red Sox are trying to re-acquire SS Hanley Ramirez from the Florida Marlins just 2 years after trading him.  The Sox package was expected to include at least Jacoby Ellsbury and Clay Buchholz.  As of right now it appears that this potential deal is dead, but keep an eye on this surfacing in the near future.  Ramirez signed a 6 year – $70 million extension last season.  More from SI.com:

The Marlins were said to be most interested in a center fielder, and discussions apparently centered on Boston’s promising youngster Jacoby Ellsbury, talented pitching prospect Clay Buchholz and others in a package for Ramirez, who began in Boston’s organization.

While the cost-conscious Marlins listened to Boston’s proposals, Florida would need to be overwhelmed to consider dealing Ramirez, who’s considered one of the best young offensive players in the game. Since Boston is said to be happy with Jed Lowrie at shortstop, it’s possible the Red Sox might have considered using Ramirez in center field.
