Eric Byrnes

Per RotoWorld:
A trade would almost certainly involve the Diamondbacks taking another bad contract in return, and the team believes that Byrnes is a better bet for 2009 than the veterans who could be offered for him (Luis Castillo, Adam Eaton and Julio Lugo could be a few possibilities). It seems unlikely, but perhaps a team looking to bring in one of the Diamondbacks’ younger players could take on Byrnes’ contract instead of giving up a quality player in return.
Byrnes has two-years and $22 Million dollars remaining on his contract. Last season, was an awful one for Byrnes who hit .209 with 6 HR’s and 23 RBI’s in 52 games. If Varitek was to leave through free-agency, it’s possible a swap of Byrnes and catcher Miguel Montero for Julio Lugo and a prospect might peek the Red Sox interest.
